Photoshop, Exacto Knife, Glue
March 06, 2011
The Beatles are my all-time favorite band (aren’t they everyone’s favorite band?) and I wanted to create something unique featuring John Lennon and Paul McCartney.
I’ve always loved David Bailey’s 1965 portraits of John and Paul. Black and white portraits are timeless, and I thought his photo of the duo would be perfect for a simple graphic I had an idea for.
I took David’s image and altered it in Photoshop, using primarily the threshold, curves, and brush tools to create an equal balance of black and negative space. I printed it out as a stencil and traced the image onto black construction paper.
Then I took an old book, and meticulously cut out blocks of text and glued them to a poster board. On top of that, I glued the outline.
